CMI_LOGO_RGBCzech metrology institute has a long experience in calibrations, certification and type approval tests of various types of flow-meters including ultrasonic and Coriolis meters which are often used for LNG flow-rate measurements. Various types of fluids including water and mixtures of hydrocarbon liquids of various viscosities and densities (gasoline, oil, LPG) are used as media for calibrations at CMI covering a wide range of Reynolds number of 20 – 10e7 (see e.g. a future report of Euramet project No.1020 lead by VSL for some results). CMI also closely cooperates with a distributor of natural gas in Czech Republic – the company RWE transgas.
CMI has gained experience with OpenFoam software for numerical simulations of fluid flow as a part of a technical development project supported by Czech Ministry of Trade and Industry.
In this project CMI will contribute by numerical simulations of cavitation effect inside the ultrasonic meters used for LNG. These simulations should lead to recommendations regarding the limits of use of ultrasonic meters for LNG applications. CMI will also contribute by calculations connected to the development of LNG flow standard at VSL.
