A very promising alternative to the state-of-the-art static volume measurements is the dynamic principle of flow metering. WP1 addresses the great technological challenge of creating traceability for LNG flow meters that currently does not exist anywhere in the world. Providing a direct link to SI with very small uncertainty and disseminating that link to a range of flows has never been done before and will be a unique accomplishment. The project will develop the know-how to ultimately provide traceability to the full range of LNG flows.
Work package 2
WP2 aims to establish a complete and deep understanding of all fundamental and practical aspects that contribute to the measurement uncertainty of both static and dynamic volume measurement techniques.
Work package 3
The objective of WP3 is to support the development of reliable and accurate sampling technologies or alternative technologies to reduce the uncertainty in LNG composition measurement. This will contribute to more accurate calculations of density and calorific value (WP4) and thereby reduce the uncertainty in the calculation of LNG energy transfer.
Work package 4
The main aim of WP4 is to reduce the uncertainty in the calculation of LNG density. Two alternative and innovative methods will be developed to produce new LNG density reference data with an order of magnitude better uncertainty than existing data. The improved reference data will be used to validate and improve LNG density calculation methods. Another goal is the assessment of the impact of density, temperature and composition gradients in LNG tanks on the total measurement uncertainty.
Work package 5
The objective of WP5 is to provide input to international guidelines and standards to the correct measurement of the transferred energy of LNG. The challenge is to provide useful input and to create acceptance by the international user community of the project results. The international working groups from ISO, CEN, G.I.I.G.N.L. and OIML will provide assistance to the JRP to ensure that the results of workpackage1-4 are presented such that they become useful input for the standardisation process. Active feedback from the working groups will be organized by visiting their meetings and by inviting representatives of the working groups to the advisory group (WP6).
Work package 6
In addition to WP5 other activities are developed in WP6 to maximise the impact of the project. The activities include organising workshops and conferences, visiting and presenting the project’s results at conferences and in scientific and key user journals. Knowledge will also be disseminated by developing training courses. An advisory group consisting of industry stakeholders will regularly meet to exchange information with the JRP-Consortium and to ensure that the project is delivering relevant results.
Work package 7
WP7 describes the activities that are needed for an efficient and effective project management. The objective is to achieve maximum progress, to have timely warnings of project delays to create the chance for finding solutions and to have cross-fertilization between related activities taking place.
